Wormwood/Absinthe (Artemisia absinthium/ herba-alba)- Mentioned in Deuteronomy 29:18, Jeremiah 23:15, Lamentations 3:15, and Revelation 8:11. Erect, busy perennial, which is 2.5' tall and 2' wide. Leaves are fingerlike segments that are silver and pubescent. Wormwood prefers full sun and dry, well drained soil. Flowers are small and yellow, blooming in late summer.
Wormwood is one of the bitter herbs of the Bible. According to legend, wormwood grew up in the trail left by the serpent's tail as it slithered out of the Garden of Eden. The earliest known written description of this herb is found on an Egyptian papyrus dating from 1600 B.C. Even then it was used to rid the body of worms.
Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets: "Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and give them poisoned water to drink." Jeremiah 23:15
